I found the blade to the Big Snapper Mower while cleaning out the barn.  The previous owner had modified a leaf spring to use as a blade.  I cannot imagine how unbalanced and noisy that thing must have been.

I am no longer surprised by these type of “engineered” fixes on the farm.  My guess is that there was not a whole lot of money, so they saved where they could.  Needless to say, I will not be using this blade on my mower.
